Rather than solely looking at what is\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">wrong with people and how to fix it,\u00a0 positive psychology aims to identify the strengths\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and positive aspects of individuals and how to enhance them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2857 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh702-300x173.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh702-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh702.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">One area where positive psychology has gained a lot of attention is in the field of peak\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">performance. Peak\u00a0 performance is the state where individuals perform at their highest\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">level, achieving optimal\u00a0 outcomes in their chosen field. Positive psychology can play a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">critical role in helping individuals achieve\u00a0 peak performance by cultivating positive\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">emotions, building resilience, and developing a sense of\u00a0 purpose and meaning in their\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As a police officer, I have always believed in the power of positive psychology.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Throughout my various\u00a0 postings, I have deployed this strategy to scale my performance\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">and undertake several community\u00a0 policing initiatives. But it was during my tenure as\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">ADGP Armed Police in 2021 that I had the most\u00a0 outstanding experience with positive\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">psychology.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The COVID-19 pandemic had taken a significant toll on individuals and families across\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the country. As a\u00a0 police officer and a human being, I was appalled at the suffering that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">people were facing. I knew that it\u00a0 was my duty to protect and serve my community, but I\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">wanted to do more than just that. I wanted to\u00a0 alleviate their suffering, to offer them a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">glimmer of hope in these dark times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That&#8217;s when I decided to employ positive psychology to uplift those around me. I\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">launched the\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.letsfightcorona.com\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.letsfightcorona.com<\/a> initiative, a platform that aimed to alleviate\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">people&#8217;s suffering during the\u00a0 ongoing pandemic by rendering a bouquet of humanitarian\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">services. With the help of more than 10,000\u00a0 personnel under me, police vehicles, and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">kitchens, we were able to provide essential supplies and\u00a0 resources to those in need.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2858 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh703-300x192.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh703-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh703.jpg 586w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The initiative went above and beyond our call of duty. We became the conduits to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">facilitate the transfer\u00a0 of resources from the haves to the have-nots. There were a lot of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">volunteers who had resources such as\u00a0 money and supplies, but they were unable to\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">distribute them. We stepped up to the challenge, and our\u00a0 efforts paid off. In just 40 days,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">we were able to distribute relief worth more than Rs 50 lakhs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But I didn&#8217;t stop there. With a heart full of compassion, I decided to raise funds for a\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">dialysis machine for\u00a0 the Tanker Foundation. I embarked on a 50 km run, pushing myself\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">to the limit to make a difference in someone else&#8217;s life. And my hard work paid off, as I\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">raised a staggering ten lakh rupees,\u00a0 contributing to the installation of the much-needed\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">machine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2859 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh704-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh704-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh704.jpg 515w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The experience was both physically and emotionally challenging. But seeing the impact\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">of our efforts\u00a0 made it all worth it. The joy and gratitude on the faces of the people we\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">helped filled my heart with a\u00a0 sense of purpose and fulfilment that I will never forget.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Through this experience, I learned that positive psychology could be a powerful tool, not\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">just for\u00a0 personal growth, but for making the world a better place. And although the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">pandemic has receded, my\u00a0 legacy lives on as a reminder that even in the darkest of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">times, hope and kindness can prevail\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One of the most famous books on positive psychology and peak performance is &#8220;Flow:\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Psychology of\u00a0 Optimal Experience&#8221; by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. Published in 1990,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the book became a landmark in\u00a0 the field of positive psychology and has inspired\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">countless people to pursue their passions and achieve\u00a0 peak performance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2860 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/jayanthmurali.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/bh705.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"217\" height=\"242\" \/>The book introduces the concept of &#8220;flow,&#8221; which is the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">state of mind that people enter when they are\u00a0 fully\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">immersed in an activity and experience a sense of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">energized focus, complete involvement, and\u00a0 enjoyment\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">in the process. According to Csikszentmihalyi, flow is\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">the key to achieving optimal experience\u00a0 and peak\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">performance in any area of life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Csikszentmihalyi also explores the factors that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">contribute to flow, such as setting clear goals, having\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">immediate feedback, and facing challenging tasks that\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">match one&#8217;s skill level. He also discusses\u00a0 how flow can\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">lead to increased creativity, productivity, and happiness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;Flow&#8221; has become a classic in the field of positive psychology, and its insights and\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">practical advice\u00a0 continue to be relevant and inspiring today. It is a must-read for anyone\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">interested in achieving peak\u00a0 performance and living a fulfilling life.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Cultivating Positive Emotions:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Positive emotions such as joy, gratitude, and optimism can play a crucial role in\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">achieving peak\u00a0 performance. These emotions can broaden an individual&#8217;s thought-action\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">repertoire, enhance creativity,\u00a0 and promote cognitive flexibility.
